Write in the Head is a free community for screenwriters at any stage of their career.
There are many courses, academies, and schools out there that focus on the essential skills required to be a screenwriter. The Write in the Head community focuses more on cultivating the mindset needed to take these skills and turn them into a fulfilling career.

Why focus on mindset?
Screenwriting is more than a hobby, more than a skill, more than a career... It’s a way of life.

The attitude of a screenwriter is critical. And yet, most film schools and independent screenwriting courses teach very little on this subject.

Write in the Head is a collection of screenwriters, who share tips and tricks, tools and techniques, that have helped them to turn their esoteric passion into tangible products (that’s “finished, produced screenplays”, to the layperson).
What exactly do y'all talk about in this community?
While we try to keep the conversations loose and address anything that comes up in the moment, the general theme of our podcast and hangouts is anything and everything related to the screenwriter’s mindset. Such topics include:

-
Setting clear and compelling goals
-
Building daily habits and routines for success
-
Overcoming procrastination
-
Dealing with loneliness and isolation
-
Taking feedback
-
Using rejection to our advantage
-
Time management
-
Writing projects that sell

Who came up with this crazy idea?
Everyone in the community is here to learn, and to teach. That said, Write in the Head was initially created by Jon Paul Spurling (pictured).
Jon currently heads up the scripted department at OGM Productions, as well as being an avid screenwriter, actor, and producer. Before venturing into the entertainment industry, Jon worked as a high-performance coach in the business and entrepreneurship space.

As the community grows, we’re seeing an increasing number of guest speakers signing up to help lead the hangouts and share their wisdom.

Guest speakers are typically established screenwriters, literary managers, talent agents, and producers.
A few more questions...
Where, when, and how do y'all do the free hangouts?
Our community meets every two weeks on Zoom, with additional in-person meetups scheduled ad-hoc for folks who live in the Los Angeles area (or folks who love the community so much they’re willing to hop on a flight to come party with us).

Are you gonna sell me a bunch of stuff in this community?
Eww! No! Hangouts, podcast, newsletter, it's all free and there are zero paid services to upgrade to. You won’t even be asked to “smash that like button.” The most we will ask of you is that, should you stumble upon other screenwriters who would benefit from the group, you extend them an invite.
Will I get work from this community?
Great question. No one can promise any work, ever. What we can promise is that our mission is to better equip all attendees with the mindset needed to stick it out in this tough industry until lady opportunity comes a knockin’. That said, should a job opportunity become known to any member of the community, and should they choose to share said opportunity with the group, that’s awesome!
How do I give this a try?
It couldn’t be easier! Simply send a stamped, self-addressed envelope, along with a check for $3,000 to... Just kidding.
